Erma Steele, 99, Albert Lea

The memorial service for Erma H. Steele of Albert Lea will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church, Albert Lea. The Rev. Dwight Netzer will officiate. Interment will be in the Concordia Pickerel Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before service at the church.

Erma, 99, passed away at Albert Lea Medical Center on April 19, 2008.

Erma was born Dec. 9, 1908, on a farm west of Manchester, the daughter of Otto and Bertha (Riemer) Breamer. She was baptized at Bear Lake Lutheran Church.

Erma graduated from Alden High School in 1926 and the Mason City School of Business. At the age of 8 she started taking piano lessons. She took lessons from Sadie Bliss for many years. Erma gave piano lessons in the Conger and Alden areas. She started to work for Trades Publishing on Feb. 1, 1944, and was there for 30 years.

Erma and Walter Steele were married Sept. 24, 1961. He passed away suddenly in 1964. Erma loved to bake and was known for her cinnamon rolls and always made a big hit with the grandchildren and family. Erma enjoyed needlework, crocheting and knitting. She loved to feed the birds and spend time out in her vegetable and flower gardens which she did every year up until last year. Erma was very active and did volunteer work at the First Presbyterian Church for over 60 years.

Erma is survived by nephews: Stewart (Judy) Willey, Douglas (Gayle) Willey; niece-in-law: Vera Willey two great nieces and two great nephews, three great great nieces; two great great nephews; one step daughter: Marcella Clausen and step-daughter-in-law: Delores Steele; step grandchildren: Carol (Rev. Craig) Briemhorst, Connie (the Rev. Tim) Booth, Jodi (Dick) Horton, Lori (Noel) Austin, Lynette (Jim) Ginger, Mike Steele and Sue Steele; 16 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great- grandchildren.

Erma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter Steele; sister, Vera Willey; nephew, Phil Willey; step daughter, Eunice Hanson; step son, Gerald Steele,

step-son-in-law, LuVerne Clausen; and step son-in-law, Vance Hanson.
