Viola Goette, 89, Albert Lea

The funeral service for Viola Cecilia Goette, of Albert Lea, will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. Dan Baker will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea, and one hour before the service at the church.
She was born on July 24, 1918, in Sisseton, S.D., the daughter of Albert and Rose (Schaunaman) Oletzke. She graduated from country school in Roberts County, S.D., on June 27, 1934.
She met a handsome young man George Goette, who worked for her father on the farm. They were united in marriage on May 8, 1935, in Sisseton. To this union, one daughter, Rosemary, was born. They moved and made their home in Albert Lea area in 1936. They then lived briefly in Des Moines, Iowa, and Austin until returning to Albert Lea and making their home on Todd Ave. for more than 60 years.
Viola had candled eggs for Kroegers, and worked as a seamstress at the dry cleaners as well as out of her home throughout her life. After retirement, Viola volunteered at Thorne Crest Retirement Community.
She was a member of the First Lutheran Church where she had been active in many areas including altar guild and circle. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and was a wonderful cook. She especially treasured time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Viola died on Friday, April 18, 2008, at Immanuel St. Joseph Hospital in Mankato of natural causes. She was 89.
She is survived by son-in-law Bill King and his wife Beverly of Albert Lea; grandchildren: Todd King and his wife Maria of
Mankato, Jim King and his wife Marcina of Hickam Air Force Base, Honolulu, Hawaii, Katharina and her husband Kevin Klanderud of Mankato; and great- grandchildren: Natalie and her husband Ryan Casper of Mankato, Philip King and his fiance/ Meg Chida of Mankato, Sarah King of Mankato, Andrew and Mary Rose Klanderud of Mankato; brother Howard Oletzke and his wife Pat of Las Vegas; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband George in 1999; her daughter Rosemary in 2000; sister Edna and her husband Henry &8220;Hank&8221; Goette; and sister-in-law Gertrude Oletzke.
Viola will be fondly remembered as a hardworking, fun, wonderful, wife, mother, and grandmother, with a great sense of humor.
