Lake Mills Bulldogs have a new wrestling coach

LAKE MILLS, Iowa &8212; Alex Brandenburg has been hired to be the next co-head wrestling coach for the Lake Mills/Northwood-Kensett wrestling program. Brandenburg will share the head coaching duties with Mike Reindl form the Northwood-Kensett School District. Coach Brandenburg will also be teaching high school math at Lake Mills. He will begin his teaching duties the fall.
Brandenburg comes from the Twin River Valley school system where he has been the head wrestling coach the last four years. Lake Mills AD Jim Boehmer said, &8220;Alex has had a very successful run at TRV and we are extremely happy to have him in our athletic department.&8221;
Brandenburg compiled a 65-19 dual record in his four years at TRV. His teams also fared well at the traditional state tournament in Des Moines finishing as state runner-up in 2007. This was the first TRV team to ever finish in the top 15. Also in 2007 they qualified for the state dual tournament.
In four years he was able to lead 17 individuals to state and bringing home 10 place winners from Des Moines.
Brandenburg is a 2000 Armstrong-Ringsted High School graduate.
Armstrong-Ringsted shares wrestling with the Emmetsburg program and as a prep Brandenburg was a four-time state qualifier, twice finishing third at state. His college career included being a two-time starter for Buena Vista University in 2002 and 2003.
Bill Byrnes will be stepping down from his head coaching duties and takes over the assistant coaching duties once held by Kevin Hebrink.
