It’s raining eight rabbits, 12 dogs, guinea pigs and other pets.
According to Sheriff Terese Amazi, two Austin residents were told to get rid of some of their animals due to the conditions in which they were living.
Police found 12 adult dogs, eight rabbits, guinea pigs, cats and other animals in the home of Maxine Tasker, 47, and James Heiny, 58. A police report states the officers were met with a “pungent odor” of animal waste upon entering the house, located in the 1200 block of 10th St. NE. There were piles of animal feces on the floor, according to the police report.
A city ordinance allows pet owners to have three adult dogs maximum, Amazi said.
Tasker and Heiny told police they breed the animals and sell them.
The two were not cited, but officers told them they must remove some of the animals. Tasker and Heiny indicated they will do so on Thursday.
