C. Pat Russell, 89, of Mankato, formerly of Albert Lea, died on Saturday, March 8, 2008, at Oaklawn Health Care Center in Mankato.
Memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Hosanna Lutheran Church in Mankato. His body was donated to the medical school at Mayo Health System. Memorials are preferred to Hosanna&8217;s youth program.
Pat, son of William and Katherine Russell, was born on Aug. 28, 1918, in Olivia. He was a 1936 graduate of Olivia High School. Pat was married to his childhood sweetheart Virginia Schendel for 64 years. The couple farmed near Lake Lillian where Pat served on the school board. They moved to Albert Lea after the farm was sold and Pat worked at Universal Cooperative until his retirement in 1983. In 2004, Pat and Virginia moved to Mankato. He was a member of Hosanna Lutheran Church and the Knights of Columbus. He also did volunteer work with various youth and church organizations. He enjoyed golfing, weather, and watching all sports, especially the ones that his grandchildren participated in.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia of Mankato; two sons, Bill of Buffalo, N.Y., and Bob (Mary) of Saint Paul; three daughters, Sue (Jerry) Hauschildt of Baldwin, Wis., Bonnie (Doug) Bice of Apple Valley and Pat (Denny) Wanzek of Madelia; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sister, Mary Russell of Olivia.
