A shortage of electric utility lineworkers is predicted to hit the industry within the next decade. As Freeborn-Mower Cooperative Services directors and cooperative staff plan for the future, it is imperative to have access to hardworking professionals. To encourage students to select this career path, FMCS is offering two $1,000 scholarships. To obtain a scholarship application, contact an area high school or the FMCS office.

The application deadline is June 16. Scholarship eligibility is open to FMCS members and non-members enrolling in a lineworker program. However, in awarding scholarships, preference will be given to FMCS members and Freeborn or Mower County residents. Students places on a waiting list for a lineworker program are still eligible to apply. FMCS will hold scholarship awards if presented with proof that a student is on a waiting list for the next enrollment period.

The scholarships are funded by unclaimed capital credits in accordance with state law for unclaimed property.
