Here are highlights in history for Aug. 8, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1991 — This was a record year for the Freeborn County Fair which was celebrating its centennial year, according to fair board secretary Howard Recknor.
1981 — One of the musical groups appearing at the Freeborn County Fair was Alabama.
1971 — Blacktopping in Hollandale resulted in the resurfacing of 15 blocks and 30 driveways, plus church and business parking lots.
