Classes learn how dance, music, math are related
Published 12:00 am Tuesday, February 26, 2008
On Thursday and Friday, the Sibley music and physical education classes in grades four through six will be experiencing how dance, music and math are related. The classes will be participating in a videocast lesson by the Minnesota Shubert Performing Arts and Education Center.
The center provides this experience at no cost to students. Specific to mathematics, the areas that students will touch on will be adding, subtracting, dividing and multiplying. They will discuss the relationship of whole numbers and subdivision. They will create and recognize patterns, frequency, sequences and sets. Depending on how far the company gets with the students, they may even touch a bit on basic geometry like having students move in various triangle shapes together.
Early childhood screening set
The state requires a developmental screening of all 3- to 4-year-old children. Albert Lea Area Schools will conduct a free screening at Brookside Education Center on Tuesday, March 18, from 1 to 6 p.m. The one-hour screening includes simple checks of vision, hearing, growth, immunization status, language, muscle and social development. Children listed on the school census have been notified by mail.
If your child turns 4 before Sept. 1 and you have not yet scheduled a screening, or are new to the community, call Deb at 379-4843 or e-mail
dwenum@albertlea.k12.mn.us to schedule an appointment.
