Albert Lea firefighters responded to a car fire outside the auto technician class at Riverland Community College at 1:56 p.m. Tuesday.

Fire Capt. Mark Light said students were conducting some testing on a vehicle when it overheated and caught fire.

Light said the fire was almost out when firefighters got to the scene. The automobile was one that belonged to the school and that was going to be disposed of anyway.

Because it was outside there was no damage to any buildings.

Wind turbine fire reported

A privately owned wind turbine reportedly caught fire at 23250 State Highway 13 at 1:52 p.m. Tuesday. The Manchester Fire Department responded to the scene.

Manchester Fire Chief Rich Wichmann said by the time firefighters arrived, the fire had extinguished itself. He said it was the generator part of the turbine that had burnt.

He he wasn’t sure if the fire was caused from a brake failure or an electrical problem, but guessed that it might have been a result of the high winds at the time.

Man cited for disorderly conduct, criminal damage

Police cited Peter Jon Nelson for disorderly conduct and criminal damage after he reportedly kicked out a headlight on a car at 130 W. College St. at 1:09 a.m. Tuesday, according to reports.
