Here are highlights in history for Aug. 9, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:

1992 — Seaboard Corp., owner of Albert Lea’s Farmstead Foods, said it planned to build a new pork processing plant in Guymon, Okla. The firm said this would not affect operations at the local plant.

1982 — One of the gimmicks used during the two Boxcar Willie shows at the Freeborn County Fair Grandstand was the sound of a train whistle or horn.

1952 — Airplane rides at the Albert Lea Airport cost a penny a pound as part of a fund drive for a local charity.
