Ellen Adams, 87, Albert Lea

The funeral service for Ellen V. Adams, of Albert Lea, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church of Albert Lea. The Rev. John Bromeland will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea, and one hour before the service at the church.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.
Ellen died on Tuesday morning, Feb. 12, 2008, at Good Samaritan Center at 87 years of age.
She was born on July 1, 1920, in Albert Lea, the daughter of Reuben and Viola (Culver) Jacobson. She graduated from Albert Lea High School. She married Francis J. (Shorty) Adams on Oct. 24, 1941, in Albert Lea. After their marriage they moved to farm near Big Island where they lived until they made their home on Front Street in Albert Lea. It was there she lived before moving to Maple Hill apartments a few years ago.
In her earlier years Ellen had worked in the accounting department at Montgomery Wards.
Ellen&8217;s passion was for volunteering, which she so evidenced throughout her life. She was a faithful participant and volunteer at the United Methodist Church where she had served as church librarian, and helped in UMW and other church related groups for numerous years.
She served more than 26 years as an adult Girl Scout volunteer and also served as District Commissioner of Girl Scouts. She made many volunteer efforts for the ALMC Auxiliary, Cancer Society Bikeathon, Community Theater as a seamstress, United Way and the Freeborn County Historical Society to name a few. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, oil and water color painting, computers, camera photography, making cards, all talents of which she shared with others.
Ellen will be greatly missed by her family: children Steven (Deanne) Adams, Wayne (Gloria) Adams, and Terry Adams, all of Albert Lea; grandchildren: Mary Adams of Albert Lea, Stephanie Adams of Albert Lea, Sheila (Jesse) Guerra of Albert Lea, Chad (Karen) Adams of Byron, Michael (Stephanie) Adams of Spearfish, S.D., great-grandchildren: Vince Guerra, Jared Guerra, Jesse III (Afton) Guerra, Shelby, Paige, Sawyer and Joseph Adams and Kaedyn Guerra; siblings: Betty Kennedy of Washington, Marion Lansdown of Wyoming and Gary (Elaine) Wadding of Minnesota; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Judith in 1989, husband Francis in 1998 and brother Jack Jacobson.
