Mayo pummels Tigers baseball in five innings

Rochester Mayo starter Brandon Zywicki limited the Albert Lea baseball team to one hit as the Spartans shutout the Tigers 10-0 in five innings in Rochester.
Zywicki walked one and struck out none in five innings, but Mayo (7-5, 6-4 Big Nine) played errorless ball behind him.
The Spartans took a 3-0 lead after the third and added five in the fourth and two in the fifth for the shutout victory.
Albert Lea senior starter Jordan Cooper lasted just 3 1/3 innings and allowed five runs on six hits, walked three and struck out two. Senior Colby Strilaeff came on in relief and proved equally as ineffective.
“Defensively they play excellent ball and they hit everything Cooper and Strilaeff threw up there,” said Tigers head coach Joe Sczublewski. “We obviously didn’t play very well and they did.”
Albert Lea (9-3, 8-3 Big Nine) beat Mayo 13-9 earlier in the season in Albert Lea, but couldn’t match that offensive output Tuesday in Rochester and lost a share of the conference lead.
