Duane Everett Buchanan, 87 of Oakland died Sunday, December 30, 2007 at St. Mark&8217;s Lutheran Home, Austin.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary with The Rev. Michael Olmsted officiating. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Oakland. Visitation will be at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Austin Post #91 American Legion is in charge of military rites.
He was born March 22, 1920 in Webster, S. D., to John and Daisy (Becker) Buchanan. The family moved to the Austin area where Duane attended the Moscow School, Shaw School in Austin and the Austin High School. Duane served in the United States Army during World War II and was married to Violet Smith on May 21, 1939 at Northwood, Iowa. The Buchanans lived in Oakland, where Duane was employed as a bulk oil delivery driver and also worked as a mechanic in Oakland. He was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Austin Post # 91 American Legion and Fidelity Lodge #39 AF & AM.
Duane enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and playing cards and was a volunteer of the forestry at Cass Lake.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, three sisters and one great-granddaughter.
Honorary bearers will be Mike Harrom, Robert Karbowski, Eric Lueth, Paul Nordean, Lee Ulrich and Wayne Ulrich.
Duane is survived by his wife, Violet Elvira Buchanan, Oakland; son, Duane (Joan) Buchanan, Livermore, Colo.; daughter, Rosemary (David) Lestrud, Loveland, Colo.; Sally (Burton) Magnuson, Austin; son, Robert (Barb) Buchanan, Racine; daughter Penny (Wayne) Elsner, Sheboygan, Wis.; two brothers, John (Jeanette) Buchanan, Springdale, Ariz., Neal (Marcella) Buchanan, Rogers, Ariz.; sister, Bonnie (Warren) Lenz, Rochester; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
