No. 3 USC wrestling team wins a pair of duals

WELLS &8212; The third-ranked United South Central wrestling team continued its dominance on the mat with wins Thursday night against Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial 55-15 and a forfeit-filled match with Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton 49-6.

In the match against LCWM, Dustin Dylla put the Rebels up 6-0 with a fall over Tanner Trembley at 103 pounds. Zach Wigern kept the momentum going with a 12-2 major decision at 112 for a 10-0 advantage.

Freshman Ernest Robledo took the first loss of the night for USC when he lost 7-2 to Spencer Yackel at 119 but was shortly picked up by Preston Staloch at 125 when he put Carter Kotlke on his back at the 1:40 mark for a 16-3 lead.

At 130, the Rebels fourth-ranked Seth Amberg was upset 2-1 by Dylan Yarger, but was followed by a strong performance at 135 by Dylan Nelson, who pinned his opponent at 1:46 for a 22-6 USC advantage.

At 140 and 145, USC and LCWM traded falls with the Rebels&8217; Matthew Wood losing at the 3:06 mark to Eric Hood, then USC&8217;s Daniel Sandt got the pin and the six points right back at 145 for a 28-12 lead.

At 152, Dylan Thisius lost his match by a 4-1 decision as LCWM pulled to within 28-15 with just five matches left. But any hope LCWM had didn&8217;t last long as the Rebels put the final nails in the coffin with falls in four of the last five matches and won the other at 189 when Nick Stevermer won a 7-2 decision.

USC&8217;s No. 1 ranked Jake Bonsack pinned Tom Sandt at 160 followed by a Nathan Goette&8217;s fall at 171 for a 40-15 advantage. Then at 215 and 285 Alex Dreyer and Mike Linder put on the finishing touches when both collected falls for the Rebels as they went on to win 55-15.

In the Rebels other match of the night they cruised to an easy 49-6 win against J-W-P with the benefit of eight forfeits.

Winning for the Rebels were Seth Amberg at 130, Dylan Nelson at 135, Dylan Thisius at 152, and Jake Bonsack at 160.

The Rebels return to the mat next Friday at the Montgomery tournament.
