Chris Baas recently shot 59 at Green Lea Golf Course.

Baas, who used to own the course record, bested Phil Schmidt’s course-record 61, but it won’t go down as the course record.

Baas played from the white tees, up from the blues, so it won’t be official.

But 59 is still 59 as Baas said.

“It’s just fun to say I shot 59, I guess,” Baas said, noting there’s only about a 200 yard difference between the white and blue tees.

Baas said he wasn’t even going to play that day, which was two Tuesdays ago, but started the first seven holes well.

Baas was 4-under after the first seven and finished with birdies on nine of the last 10 holes.

“I was never thinking about shooting a 59,” Baas said. “I was just thinking about shooting the lowest score I could.”
