Vernon Johnson, 94, Wells

Vernon Johnson, 94, of Wells, died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007 at Parkview Care Center in Wells. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, at 10:30 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wells.

Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Pastor Meg Sander will officiate. Burial will be in Rice Lake Cemetery in Foster Township.

Vernon Johnson was born on Jan. 30, 1913 in Bricelyn, the son of Anton and Sena (Wangen) Johnson. He was baptized and confirmed at North Blue Earth Lutheran Church. He married Marie O. Buendorf on Nov. 12, 1933 in North Blue Earth Parsonage in Bricelyn. They would have celebrated 74 years of marriage on Monday. He worked as a farm hand until 1937. In 1938 he went to work on the railroad and retired Oct. 31, 1975. He was a member of the Wells Senior Citizens and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Vernon enjoyed baseball, playing pool and playing cards. Vernon was a man of few words, quiet and soft-spoken, a man with a big heart.

He is survived by his wife, Marie, of Wells; one daughter, Patricia (Bob) Schumacher of Bloomington; three sons: Barry Johnson (special friend Marlene) of Mankato, Stuart Johnson of Wells, and Kent (Jackie) Johnson of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; one daughter-in-law, Dolly Johnson of Albert Lea, 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, one brother Harold (Peggy) Johnson of Austin, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons: Dean and Dale; one granddaughter: Traci Johnson; four brothers: Clarence, Ingvold, Alfred and Alvin; three sisters: Selma, Helen and Palma and four brothers and sisters in infancy.
