Snowfall reported in Albert Lea

Some Albert Lea residents reported a short timeframe of falling snow late Monday morning. Obviously, the snow did not accumulate, but it was the first observed snowfall of the season. The National Weather Service automatic weather observing station for Albert Lea didn&8217;t report any snow, though some employees at the Albert Lea Tribune reported seeing it right outside the building.
The high winds were the topic of conversation Monday. The National Weather Service reported winds from the northwest. Around 3 p.m. they reached 32 mph with gusts of up to 43 mph. Most of the day the wind speeds were in the 20s.
The high and low temps seemed backward Monday. The high was at night and low during the day. The high of 52 degrees came a little after midnight, and the mercury then dropped during the day to the upper 30s and lower 40s. Once the air temperature hit 34 degrees at 5 p.m. and stayed there through much of Monday evening.
The temperature fell again at 5 a.m. today to 32 and by 6:30 a.m. it was 28 degrees.
Bundle up for Election Day. The forecast calls for temperatures to drop tonight to the upper teens or lower 20s. The mercury is expected to rise again Wednesday to 45 degrees with winds no higher than 13 mph.
