Milford Larson, 92, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Milford (Mel) Larson, age 92, of Albert Lea will be held at 11 a.m.

Wednesday, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Albert Lea. The Rev. Ken Jensen will officiate. Interment will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in Glenville. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. You can also sign the guest book by going to www.bayviewfuneral.com.

Milford died Friday, Nov. 2, 2007, at Thorne Crest Health Care Center.

Milford (Mel) Larson was born on Sept. 21, 1915, to Cinius and Anna (Anderson) Larson near Glenville. He was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Glenville. He attended school in Glenville and graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1933. He also completed several night school classes at Mankato State University. Milford was united in marriage to Mildred Mittag on June 26, 1938. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Sharon and Barbara. The Larsons lived on a farm near Hayward, for six years, then moved to Albert Lea where they have since resided. He was employed at Olson Manufacturing Co. for 10 years, then began working at Streater&8217;s Industries, where he became the manager of metal manufacturing. Milford remained there until he retired on Jan. 1, 1979. Since his retirement, he was a volunteer driver for Meals on Wheels for 20 years. He also served as a board member there. Milford was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he was also a member of the usher club and a former council member. He also was a charter member of Sonland Lutheran Church in Casa Grande, Ariz., where he and his wife wintered for several years. They also had spent winters in Florida and Texas. He was a member of the Elks and the Senior Citizens in Albert Lea.

Milford enjoyed wood-working in his shop and creating beautiful furniture for his daughters and grandchildren. Milford was an avid reader and enjoyed golf, fishing, playing cards, pool and spending time with his family. He truly was a family man.

Survivors include his wife, Milly; daughters, Sharon (Frank) Holway of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Barb (Allen) Moe of Rochester; grandchildren, Brad (Beth) Holway, Sherri (Manuel) Mestas all of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Erik (Brenda) Moe of Burnsville; great-grandchildren, Ben and Luke Holway, Sarah and Julianna Mestas, and Alanna Moe; a twin brother, Milton (Mabel) Larson of Albert Lea; brother-in-law, Don Mittag of Haslett, Mich., and several nieces and nephews.

Milford was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James and Marion; sister, Ruth Korsmo; a great-granddaughter, Samantha Marie Mestas; nephew, Richard Larson; brothers-in-law, Harland Mittag, Clarence Korsmo and Roy Schilling; sisters-in-law, Arlene Schilling, Mae Mittag, Hazel Larson and Nellie Larson.
