Glenville-Emmons cooling quickly

After a 5-0 start to the season the Glenville-Emmons baseball team has hit a wall.

The Wolverines dropped their fifth consecutive game Friday in an 11-4 loss to Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain in Glenville in a game where they held a 2-1 lead through the first three innings.

“I’m almost at a loss for words now with what’s going on,” said Glenville-Emmons head coach Louie Toulouse. “For some reason we can’t seem to get hits.”

The Wolverines (5-5, 1-2 SEC) had three hits Thursday in a 2-1 loss and six hits Tuesday in a 5-3 loss. Against the Knights Glenville-Emmons tallied seven but still had trouble at the plate.

“We were looking at good pitches and swinging at bad pitches,” Toulouse said.

The Wolverines held a 2-1 lead after the third inning, but that’s when ML/GHEC started to heat up at the plate. The Knights tied the game in the fourth and added four runs in the fifth to take a 6-2 lead. ML/GHEC hit two home runs in the game and finished with 13 hits.

The Wolverines never recovered after the fifth and scored single runs in the fifth and seventh.

“Just all of a sudden when we gave up those four runs you could see their heads drop,” Toulouse said.

Spencer Kral took the loss after giving up eight runs on 12 hits. Kral walked just two and struck out eight, but the Glenville-Emmons offense offered little run support.

“Like I told them, if we would have scored some runs for him we could have won the game,” Toulouse said.

The Wolverines struck out 10 times against Knights starter Cody Petrowiak, who worked seven innings and allowed four runs on seven hits and walked two.

Patrick Larson went 2-for-3 with two runs while Jon Mittag went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and Kral finished 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Glenville-Emmons plays Lyle/Pacelli Monday, a team which beat the Wolverines Tuesday 5-3 in the seventh inning, in Lyle.
