The USC/AC boys&8217; and girls&8217; cross country teams finished in second and third place respectively in the eight-team Invitational.
A much-improved team from Plainview-Elgin-Milville finished 1-2-3 in the boys&8217; competition to win that handily. PEM is the first class A team the Rebels have lost to this season.
The girls finished third behind Class AA power Dover-Eyota-St Charles and a strong Class A team from LaCrescent.
The girls had an excellent meet according to their coach, Kent Viesselman.
&8220;Thirteen of the 16 girls who ran 4,000 meters had their best time of the season,&8221; he said. &8220;As a team, they turned in their best team time and had their best range of the season.&8221;
Amber Erickson (12th), Andree Escherich (18th), Shelby Little (23rd), Hannah Goemann (29th) and Abby Trio (32nd) were the scorers for the Rebels.
Jake Elmer (fourth), Jordan Haroldson (fifth), Eric Klein (ninth), Paul Little (14th) and Jonathan Leland (32nd) were the top five for the boys.
&8220;PEM was impressive,&8221; Viesselman said. &8220;After Tuesday, I&8217;d have to say they are the favorites in Section 1.&8221;
