Orvil S. Stormo, 81, of Watertown, S.D., passed away Sunday, Sept. 2, 2007, at his residence. Funeral service will be at 2 p. m. Thursday at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Watertown. The Rev. Tom Christenson and Rev. Sam Hatlestad will officiate. Robbyn Givens will be the soloist with Marian Riddle as organist. Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Wight, Comes and Sogn Funeral Chapel in Watertown and will continue at the church prior to services.

Family requests memorials be designated to Prairie Lakes Hospice, PO Box 1210, Watertown, SD 57201.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the Home Health and Hospice Nurses; Dr. Kim Wilde; Sons of Norway; Orvil&8217;s grandchildren, Jennifer Norby, Nicole DeVeney, Heather Hanson, Austin Buckley, Colin Buckley, Casey Stormo, Lexi Stormo, Brock Stormo, Abby Stormo, Ethan Stadheim and Callie Stadheim; Orvil&8217;s great grandchildren, Riley Barton, Gage Barton, Zoe DeVeney and Jensyn Hanson.

Pallbearers will be nephews, Doug Stormo, David Stormo, Steven Jellis, Butch Jellis, Gerry Jellis, David Jellis, Don Jellis, Alan Miller and Cliff Baker.

Orvil Stanley Stormo was born May 30, 1926, to Carl S. and Martha (Larson) Stormo, at home, west of Troy, S.D. He was baptized and confirmed at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Troy. He attended grade school at District #63 Codington County and graduated from Waverly High School. After graduation, he worked at the Gamble Farm Store in Watertown. On Sept. 20, 1948, he married Shirley Jean Jellis at her parents&8217; home in Waverly, South Dakota. In 1949, the couple moved to the farm in Lura Township, Grant County, which he owned with his brother, Herbert. In 1992, he retired and moved into Watertown. He never lost his love for his chosen profession and continued to contribute to the farm. He also was employed for Zimmel&8217;s Furniture laying linoleum and carpet.

Orvil was a community leader serving on the following Grant County boards: ASCS, Soil District, FHA, Selective Service, Extension and the Lura Township. He was a member of the Bergen Lutheran Church, Florence Parish and served on the church council. He was presently a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer.

He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing cards, dancing, watching the Minnesota Twins baseball games and putting together puzzles. He especially enjoyed the family camping trips and fishing with the grandchildren.

Orvil S. Stormo passed away on Sept. 2, 2007, at his residence in Watertown at the age of 81.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Herbert and Maynard Stormo; and one granddaughter, Tammy Norby.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; his children, Sandra (Tom) Norby of Albert Lea, Roger (Sherry) Stormo of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Pamela (Brent) Buckley of Kapolei, Hawaii, Gordon (Beth) Stormo of Summit, S.D., and Laurie (Scott) Stadheim of Sioux Falls, S.D.; one sister, Leona Baker of Watertown, S.D.; five sisters-in-law, Vivian Miller, Beverly Stormo and Phyllis Jellis all of Watertown, S.D., Lois McGlinsey of Kalamazoo, Mich. and Lue Ann Van Eimeren of Waterford, Wis.; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
