Mayo downs Tiger swimmers in season opener

Rochester Mayo won eight events to distance itself from Albert Lea and win in the Tigers&8217; first dual swim action of the season, 97-84.
The Tigers picked up wins in four events led by a very impressive 1-2 finish for Amanda Walters and Samantha Cole in the 50 free. Walters came to the wall in 26.52 while Cole touched at 26.97.
Gracie Thomas finished first in th 100 breaststroke while Alaina Schultz, Jackie Elwood, Amy Horesji and Cole took the top spot in the 200 freestyle relay by over a second with a time of 1:48.94. Schulz,
Elwood, Korbin Wayne and Walters also
finished first in the 400 freestyle relay.
Walters would take second in a very fast 100 backstroke with a time of 1:03.69. Mayo&8217;s Erin Caflisch won with a mark of 1:02.35.
Cole added a second place finish in the 100 butterfly and Katie Walechka was second in the diving competition with 139.70 points.
The dual started with a very close race in the 200 medley relay as Walters, Thomas, Cole and Amy Horejsi took the runner-up spot in 1:58.52 just a little over a second behind the winning time put up by Mayo.
