Funeral services for Phillip L. Stenseth, 81, of New York Mills, and formerly of the Glenville area, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Round Prairie Lutheran Church. The Rev. Chris Fiske will officiate. Interment will be in the Round Prairie Lutheran Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Freeborn County veterans organizations. Philly died Monday, July 23, 2007, at his home in New York Mills.
Phillip LeRoy Stenseth was born Aug. 20, 1925, to Emil and Olga (Amundson) Stenseth in Freeman Township and was a life long resident of the Glenville area. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Philly married Bernice Diesman in 1952 and together they had two sets of twins.
He had farmed in the Glenville area for many years, retiring in 1981. Philly was a member of the Round Prairie Lutheran Church and the Glenville American Legion. He was an avid outdoorsman and gardener. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping, and had an excellent sense of humor.
Survivors include his daughters: Susan (Jack) Donelan of Battle Lake, Sharon (Bobby) Kelly of Corcoran, June (Bruce) Malenke of Winona, and Jane (Lynn) Thorson of Bricelyn; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, Duane (Virginia) Stenseth of Albert Lea; sister, Margaret (Harris) Johnson of Newman Grove, Neb.; and several nieces and nephews.
Phillip was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Ervin, James, George, and Orville; and sister, Stella.
