The Salvation Army has provided nonstop assistance to the Ward County and Minot area, following record-breaking flooding this past June. To date, The Salvation Army has provided more than 62,000 meals and almost 100,000 bottles of water or other drinks. The Salvation Army staff and volunteers from Minnesota and North Dakota have booked more than 12,000 hours of service in this effort.
Because of to the continued need, Salvation Army leaders were requested Friday to provide relief staff. From Albert Lea, Capt. Jim Brickson will be assuming the position as incident commander and the Rev. David Hernes will be responsible for emotional and spiritual care. Joining them from the Mankato Salvation Army will be Capt. Cindy Parker, filling the position of finance and administration chief as well as Linda Colltrain, joining as an additional emotional and spiritual care provider. The team will depart early Wednesday and will remain on location until Sept. 7.
“This deployment is another service that southern Minnesota disaster teams train for,” Brickson said. “Last year our community was devastated from tornadoes and floods and it was others that came here to help us. We have the opportunity to give back.”
With the end of services yet to be decided, The Salvation Army is dedicated to helping survivors as long as needed and as resources allow.
