The Rochester Police Department made an announcement this morning in the suspected murder case of 27-year-old April Sorensen, who grew up as April Larson near Hayward.
The announcement came at 11 a.m., after the Albert Lea Tribune&8217;s press run but before the newspapers hit the streets. The Tribune had a reporter at the announcement. Look for more in Friday&8217;s newspaper.
Sorensen was found dead upstairs in her home at 4809 22nd Ave. N.W. in Rochester on the afternoon of April 17, after a man arriving there to perform routine pre-scheduled maintenance work saw heavy smoke through a window in the home.
Police believe the killer set the house on fire to cover up the crime.
&8220;The purpose of this press conference is to provide an opportunity for the surviving family of April Sorensen to address the news media and for the Rochester Police Department to provide an update regarding the investigation into the case,&8221; the department said in a news release.
The case has strong Albert Lea area ties. Her husband was 26-year-old Joshua Sorensen, who grew up in the Alden area. He was at work at IBM at the time of the murder and is not a suspect.
