Myre-Big Island State Park will host a free “I Can Fish!” program from 9 a.m. to noon Friday to teach the basics of fishing.

A trained MinnAqua Naturalist Corps staff person will be on hand to offer helpful tips, encouragement and interesting facts about aquatic insects, fish and more. Participants will learn the importance of stewardship and conserving aquatic habitats. Each person will also have the chance to make their own “pop can caster” to fish with during the program and to take home. Most of the morning will be spent at the fishing pier trying to catch fish.

The program is free and no fishing license is required. Vehicles entering the park are required to have a state park permit, which cost $5 daily or $25 year-round, and can be purchased at the park. For more information call 507-379-3403.
