Glenn Kaehler, 90, Bricelyn

Glenn J. Kaehler, 90, of Bricelyn, died Tuesday, April 17, 2007, at St. John&8217;s Lutheran Home in Albert Lea. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Bricelyn Lutheran Church in Bricelyn. The Rev. Pat Hinkie and the Rev. Ed Nieman will officiate. Visitation will be on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Bricelyn and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Bricelyn Lutheran Cemetery in rural Bricelyn.

Glenn Julius Kaehler was born on June 5, 1916, in St. Charles, the son of Ben and Anna (Schwanbeck) Kaehler. He was baptized at the Methodist Church in St. Charles and attended the one room school district #59 for eight years. He graduated from St. Charles High School in 1934. Glenn attended the Minnesota School of Agriculture in St. Paul from 1934-35. He met Millie Monson at the School of Agriculture and they were married on March 26, 1938 by the Rev. J. R.

Lavick. They farmed three different farms from 1934 to 1987, when they retired and moved to Bricelyn. He was a member of Bricelyn Lutheran Church and had served on the church council; he was a 4-H club leader and member; a member of the Zail Belgian Draft Horse Association; the Minnesota State Charolais Association; the Fairmont Production Credit Association, and served as a director; and was a member of the Minnesota Crop Improvement Association. He raised and enjoyed working with registered Belgian draft horses and Charolais cattle.

Glenn&8217;s hobbies were hunting and fishing in northern Minnesota and Canada, elk hunting in Wyoming and Montana and antique cars. He played saxophone in band and orchestra and by ear.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mildred Monson Kaehler; sons: Mons David (Janice) Kaehler of Rochester; Daniel Benjamin Kaehler of Fairmont; one daughter: Judith (Allen) Menssen of Albert Lea; grandchildren: Kimberly (John) Schmidt, Mark (Connie) Kaehler, Kristin (Dr. Troy) Amdahl, Kathi Kaehler, Matthew (Nikole) Kaehler, Betsy Diekema and Dr. Andrew Nottleson, Troy (Tami) Menssen, Darin (Marissa) Menssen, Tom Menssen,

Todd (Connie) Menssen, and Jason (LaJuanda) Menssen; great-grandchildren: Michael and Derek Schmidt, Heather, Jacob, and Jordan Kaehler, Maxwell, Joelle, Bennett and Alea Amdahl, Trystin and Tad Kaehler, Benjamin, Samuel and Anna Nottleson, Madeline and Olivia Menssen, Hans Menssen, Lucille and Clara Menssen; step-grandchildren: Angela, Amy and Alicia Jungbauer, Yelytza and Sayil Gomez Menssen; sister-in-law: Maxine Kaehler; brother-in-law: Charles Gathje; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters: Rudy, Myrton, Arnold, Donald, Dorothy, Verilyn, Bernice, Pearl, Harriet and Ruby; grandson: Michael Kaehler; son-in-law: Kenneth Diekema; and mother and father -in-law: Mons and Elvina Monson.

Glenn&8217;s family extends deepest thanks to all who have been supportive to Dad and Mom and to our family. Thank you to Barbara and Dick Butturff for caring for Dad for three years at Eyota Rest Home. Thank you to the nurses, aides, and staff at St. John&8217;s Lutheran Home. Everyone who served was kind and compassionate to Dad and to us. We will never forget this. May God bless you all. Our friends and Bricelyn Lutheran Church have been most helpful and we thank you. Glenn will be sorely missed. He was a great Dad.
