Pedestrian dies after being struck on I-35

Thomas E, Shadle, 52, of Clinton, Iowa, died in a Rochester hospital early today after being seriously injured Tuesday afternoon. He was reportedly hit by a truck one mile north of the Minnesota-Iowa border on Interstate 35.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the incident occurred just after 4:30 p.m. on southbound Interstate 35 near milemarker 1.
After he was hit, the man was lying in a lane of traffic and authorities diverted traffic to the right lane only, according to correspondence from the scene. A Mayo One helicopter responded.
The report states 57-year-old Robert Schmitz of Swaledale, Iowa, was the driver of the 1984 Kenworth Construction truck involved with the crash. At the time of the incident, the vehicle was traveling south on I-35.
Further description of the incident is pending reconstruction investigation.
The Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
