Ronald Swanson, Cottage Grove

Ronald Murray Swanson died on Saturday, April 7, 2007, after a courageous battle with leukemia. Ron is survived by his wife of 40 years, Susan Swanson; his son and daughter-in-law, Chris Swanson and Sneha Patel; his daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Matt Bickel; and beloved granddaughter, Celia Bickel.
Ron was born in St. Paul to Bennard and Lorraine Swanson and was raised in Albert Lea. After graduating from Mankato State University, he proudly served his country for two years in Vietnam, and then returned to Minnesota.
After graduating with an MBA degree from St. Cloud State University, Ron settled in St. Paul and then Cottage Grove to begin a 32-year career with 3M Company and then Imation Corporation in international marketing and sales.
Ron was a wonderful husband and father, as well as a much-valued brother and brother-in-law to Jack and Marlene Swanson, Rick and Mary Swanson, and Steve and Pat Swanson. His greatest and most recent joy was Celia, who will grow up with many treasured memories of her joyful times with &8220;Grandpa Ron.&8221; He lived life to the fullest, loving his family very deeply, thoroughly enjoying his close friends, generously supporting many causes, and always giving of his time and energy where it was needed.
To celebrate Ron&8217;s life, a memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at Crossroads Church in Cottage Grove, 7955 Ivystone Ave. S.
(651) 459-7111. The service will be immediately followed by a luncheon in the church&8217;s fellowship hall. A private burial ceremony will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. At Ron&8217;s request, in lieu of flowers, memorials will be donated to The Ronald McDonald House and Smile Train.
