In its inagural season, the Waldorf College men’s hockey team has a new head coach — again.
According to a news release, Waldorf has named Brett Shelanski, of Burnsville, the team’s latest head coach.
Most recently, Shelanski was a coach with the Edina Lakers in the Minnesota Junior Hockey League. He has also been an assistant coach at the University of Minnesota, Crookston, and head coach of the Minnesota Flying Aces, a Tier III Junior A hockey program.
Waldorf’s original head coach was Douglas Ross, a four-time national championship coach and member of the 1967 U.S. Olympic hockey team. On the Waldorf athletics website, Ross is no longer listed on the men’s hockey team’s coaching list.
Voice messages left Friday with Waldorf’s athletic director and sports information director inquiring about Ross went unreturned.
The team is slated to play its 2011-12 schedule at City Arena in Albert Lea.
