Ann Gulbrandson, 88, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Ann Jeanette Holmquest Gulbrandson will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Salem Lutheran Church in Albert Lea with the Rev. Richard Spande officiating. Interment will be at Lakewood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea and one hour before the service at the church.
Ann Jeanette Holmquest Gulbrandson died on Feb. 27, 2007, at Oakview Terrace in Freeman, S.D. She was 88 years, 11 months old.
Ann was born in Albert Lea on March 27, 1918 to John A. and Ruth E.(Knutson) Holmquest. She graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1934. She was united in marriage to Edgar M. Gulbrandson on Aug. 25, 1937.
The first seven years of their marriage, they moved several times returning to Albert Lea in 1945. She worked for Northwestern Bell, retiring after 30 years of service. Following her retirement, she enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family. In 1995, to be closer to her family, she moved to Tripp, S.D. with her daughter Ginny. In 2001 she entered Prairie Crossings Assisted Living and then Park Place Assisted Living in Brookings, S.D. She made her final move to Oakview Terrace in Freeman, S.D. last April.
She was active in D.O.E.S. and held the office of President, both locally and at the State level. She attended the Ulstad Alanon group for many years. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed many different kinds of card games.
She is survived by her son, Charles R. &8220;Chuck&8221; and his wife, Fran of Anderson, S.C., daughters ; Virginia &8220;Ginny&8221; Gulbrandson of Tripp, S.D. and Carole Lee Hansen and her husband, James of Brookings, SD. Eight grandchildren: Michael Gulbrandson (Irma) of Baxley, Ga.; Patrick Gulbrandson (Tina) of Kensington, Md.; John Miller (Kathleen) of Farmington; Meghan Miller (Lorn Halstead) of Brookings, S.D.;, Janelle Miller of Volga, S.D.; Garret Hansen (Jill), Grant Hansen (Dawn) and Garner Hansen, all of Sioux Falls, S.D. Sixteen great-grand children, her brother, Robert E. Holmquest of Volga, S.D.; sister-in-law, Dorothy Holmquest Nissen (Ross) of Webster City, Iowa; brother-in-law, Leslie C. Gulbrandson (Billie) of Tucson, Ariz., and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Edgar; her brother ,John R. Holmquest; mother and father-in-law Mae and Eddie Gulbrandson, and grandson, Charles R. &8220;Rip&8221; Gulbrandson, Jr.
Memorial in lieu of flowers are preferred to Freeman Regional Health Service, Freeman, S.D.
