Gordon Michaelis, 74, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Gordon G. Michaelis, age 74, of Albert Lea will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Ascension Lutheran Church.

The Rev. Mark Boorsma will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery with military honors accorded by Freeborn County veterans organizations.

Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the services at the church.

Gordon died Monday, Feb. 26, 2007, at Albert Lea Medical Center.

Gordon George Michaelis was born May 22, 1932, to Leonard and Alice (Golbuff) Michaelis in Albert Lea.

He attended schools in Albert Lea, graduating from Albert Lea High School in 1950. On Aug. 21, 1954, Gordon was united in marriage to Eldean (Dixie) Hermanson at Grace Lutheran Church.

He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War from 1952 to 1956.

Gordon was a self-employed mechanic and semi-retired.

He was a member of the Eagles, American Legion, and the Freeborn County Snowmobile Club and a very devoted member of Ascension Lutheran Church.

Gordon had his pilot’s license before graduating from high school.

He loved his &8220;Gold Wing&8221; motorcycle, snowmobiles, camping, bike riding, scooters, and music – especially Country Western and anything that said &8220;Ford.&8221;

Survivors include his wife, Dixie of Albert Lea; sister, Norma (Jerry) Birkman of Blaine; sisters-in-law, Delrose (Dr. Dale) Rosenberg of Mason City and Marilee Citsay of Albert Lea; brothers-in-law, Dean (Helen) Hermanson of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Dennis Hermanson of Marietta, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Robert Michaelis; and several aunts and uncles.

Gordon will be greatly missed by his loving wife and many family members and friends.
