The funeral service
for Jeanette O&8217;Connor will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, at United Methodist Church, Albert Lea. The Rev. John Bromeland will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before service at the church. Interment will be in the St. Theodore Catholic Cemetery, Albert Lea.
Jeanette (Norma) O&8217;Connor passed away Feb. 22, 2007, at St. Mark&8217;s Nursing Home in Austin.
Jeanette &8220;Norma&8221; O&8217;Connor was born on April 24, 1912 to Floyd and Grace (Fairley) Stearns in Waseca. At the age of 2, her family moved to Ellendale where she grew up with her two sisters, Myrle and Thelma and many cousins.
They were very musical and sang for family and friends.
Jeanette graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1930.
She was a bookkeeper at Motor Inn and Knutson Chevrolet Garages, Frank & Bob Arnolds and Jim & Dudes.
On Aug. 13, 1938, she was united in marriage to Michael J. O&8217;Connor Sr.
To this union two sons were born, Michael J. O&8217;Connor II and Patrick T. O&8217;Connor.
Jeanette was a charter member of the United Methodist Church of Albert Lea.
She was an avid golfer, bowler and loved to play bridge. Besides bowling herself, she was active in the Junior Bowling Program. Her hands always had knitting needles or a crochet hook
going at full speed as she produced an endless number of afghans. You would always find her watching sports of any kind on her television.
In 2001 she moved to Austin and resided at The Cedars until for health reasons she moved to St. Mark&8217;s Nursing Home.
Jeanette is survived by her two sons: Michael (Jan) O&8217;Connor and Patrick (Barb) O&8217;Connor; three
grandchildren: Michael III (Beverly) O&8217;Connor, Shaun O&8217;Connor (Scott Nichols) and Ryan O&8217;Connor; three great- grandchildren: Michael IV and Mason O&8217;Connor, Ashley Nichols; six step grandchildren; many step great-grandchildren; many step great-great-grandchildren; sister: Myrle Claybourne of New Richland; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Sr.; parents, Floyd and Grace Stearns; sister:
Thelma Thuesen; stepmother:
Sedate Stearns;
and niece: Sharon Kortz.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the United Methodist Church or to the donor&8217;s choice.
