Freeborn County District Court Judge Ross Leuning on Monday sentenced an Albert Lea woman to probation and a fine for two counts of methamphetamine sales.

The woman, Wendy Jean Woodson, 50, will not have to serve any prison time unless she violates the conditions of her sentence.

The sentence came after Woodson pleaded guilty in May to two separate counts of third-degree methamphetamine sales, both felonies. The guilty plea came as part of an agreement between her lawyers and the Freeborn County attorney.

Per mutual recommendation by both the prosecution and the defense in the agreement, Leuning dismissed four other files against Woodson, that contained various other meth sales counts.

“You’ve been given a second chance here by being put on probation,” Leuning told Woodson.

Leuning initially faced a combined total of at least nine counts.

She will be on probation for up to 20 years.

If Woodson violates her conditions, she faces a prison term of 27 months on one count and 33 months on the second count, to be served concurrently.

Woodson is getting credit for the 77 days she’s already spent in the Freeborn County jail.

As part of her sentencing, Leuning also ordered that Woodson remain law abiding, report to her probation agent as directed, obtain prior approval before leaving the state, comply with random testing, have no firearms and pay a fine of $320.

She is also not allowed to have mood-altering chemicals or alcohol, and she must stay away from bars and liquor stores. She must submit to DNA testing as requested.

One of Woodson’s lawyers, Lynne Torgerson, said her client in the past has had a serious drug problem, and she has since gone through treatment at Fountain Lake Treatment Center.
