ROCHESTER &045; The final day of The Clash V proved to be a difficult one for the third-ranked Albert Lea wrestling team as it lost its final three duals.

Despite the rough final day the Tigers still finished eighth in a tough 32-team field.

The day began with a 38-15 loss to Glenbard North, Ill. followed by the anticipated matchup with top-ranked Hastings which the Tigers lost 36-21.

&8220;The Hastings match was the one I really wanted to win, but there were three close matches and they won them all,&8221; Tiger head coach Larry Goodnature said. &8220;They were a bit better team, but we will have a chance to get them back in a couple weeks at the St. Cloud Tech Tournament.&8221;

Albert Lea&8217;s day would end with a 39-22 loss to Archbishop Moeller, Ohio.

&8220;Getting into that second division of teams we saw a lot of ranked teams and ranked individuals,&8221; Goodnature said. &8220;I think it was an eye-opener for our kids to see that you have to be totally commented and intense all the time.&8221;

Against Glenbard North, Albert Lea would drop two close decisions at 215 and 275 before getting a 3-0 win from top-ranked Cody Hansen at 103.

Glenbard North responded with three straight victories before No. 3 Eric Johnson earned a pin at 130 pounds in 3:59. Logan Hansen and No. 1 Matt Morris had the other two wins for Albert Lea earning decisions at 160 and 171, respectively.

Zak Drescher got Albert Lea off to a good start against Hastings beating Reilly Murphy 1-0 at 285 pounds. Cody Hansen extended the lead to 7-0 with a 10-1 major decision at 103.

However, Hastings would get close wins at 112 and 125 as well as a pin at 119 to go up 12-7.

Johnson would record a pin in 2:36 to give Albert Lea the lead momentarily at 13-12, but Hastings would win the next five matches with two coming by three points or less.

Morris and No. 3 Taylor Ignaszewski both recorded major decisions for Albert Lea but it was not enough.

&8220;Johnson, Morris and Ignaszewski all had very good tournaments for us,&8221; Goodnature said.

Cody Hansen, Tim Aldrich, Johnson, Ignaszewski and Ethan Reed &8212; who filled in for an injured Bradon Reyerson &8212; all won matches against Archbishop Moeller.

Montini Catholic, Ill., the only team to beat the Tigers on the first day of The Clash, went on to win the team title giving Illinois teams four of the five Clash crowns since the tournament began. Apple Valley finished second and Hastings was seventh.
