Northwestern Singers to begin 2011-12 season

The Northwestern Singers will begin their 2011-12 season on Sept. 12. Rehearsals are from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday nights at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Austin from September through May. If you can sing, they would love to have you join them.

The season includes three main performances:

• Nov. 5, 2011: Annual benefit concert for youth music. To date the NWS have raised over $33,000 for school youth music programs.

• Jan. 21 and 22, 2012: Annual winter show at the Paramount Theatre. The theme is “Timeless” — favorite songs from today and time gone by

• May 18-19, 2012: Annual spring show.

In existence for over 50 years in Austin, the NWS is a mixed choral group whose members are from Austin, Albert Lea and Rochester areas. They all share the love of singing and performing. Members range in age from post high-school to 70-plus and are from many different backgrounds. Under the direction of Brock Besse, their repertoire includes all types of music such as Broadway, contemporary, old standards, gospel and more. For questions or more information, call 440-7295.
