Here are highlights in history for Sept. 2, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:

1987 — The Albert Lea unit of the National Guard was using a portion of Helmer Myre State Park for field training. During the previous year the unit had used White Woods County Park near Twin Lakes for training.  This option was removed by the county board because of several complaints.

1977 — The Twin Lakes Orchard, six miles south of Albert Lea on U.S. Highway 69, was open for the season. Their ad said the apples for sale would be freshly washed.
