You Can Help

The following are some of the volunteer opportunities currently open in Freeborn County. If you can help with any of them or would like to volunteer for others, call Pat Stumme, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program director, at Senior Resources, 377-7433.
Pelican Breeze: Calling all potential captains and first mates for the Pelican Breeze. They’re looking to expand the crew and would love to connect with you. Please call 402-1759 for Cheryl Page to register for a free cruise and to shadow one of the captains. What a time to see all of Albert Lea Lake from the controls of the Pelican Breeze and get ready for Spring 2012!
Albert Lea Area Schools: Many children need adult help to improve their reading or do other homework. Plan now to mentor a child through the Minnesota Reading Corps program and Reading Partners in the elementary schools to help a child prepare to succeed in school. You will volunteer 30 minutes one or two times per week. Call Pat at 377-7433 for more details.
Big Island Rendezvous: It’s great to celebrate Minnesota history by leading a tour with elementary students through the Big Island Rendezvous. Tour guides are needed to ensure that the classes get to their appointed area on schedule. Just come to the orientation at 5 p.m. Sept. 27 at Bancroft Bay. You are needed for Sept. 29 and 30 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Help one day or two and get free admission to the weekend event. As Perry Vining says, “We never have enough school days guides.”
RSVP, a program of Senior Resources of Freeborn County, receives some funding through the United Way of Freeborn County, the Minnesota Board on Aging and the Corporation for National and Community Service.
