Leslie Wittmer, 72

Funeral services for Leslie Albert Wittmer of Albert Lea will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, at Concordia Pickerel Lake Lutheran Church. The Rev. Wendy Anderson will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 until 7:30 p.m. at Bonnerup Funeral Service, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Concordia Pickerel Lake Cemetery.

Mr. Wittmer died Sunday morning at St John&8217;s Lutheran Home in Albert Lea. He was 72 years of age.

Leslie was born on Oct. 27, 1933, in Albert Lea, the son of Ernest and Minnie (Lembke) Wittmer.

He was a graduate of Alden High School. On Oct. 23, 1955, he was united in marriage to Joan Wangen at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. Together they made their home in Alden, 30 years in Lafayette and returned to Albert Lea in 1997.

Leslie was a member of Concordia Pickerel Lake Lutheran Church. For over 27 years, he owned and operated Les’s Skating Rink. He also had worked for Siem’s Damaged and Unclaimed Freight, R and H Plumbing and farmed the family’s Century Farm near Alden.

In his free time, Leslie enjoyed collecting toy tractors, old-time music and deer hunting.

Leslie is survived by his wife Joan of Albert Lea; sons Kevin and his wife Kristine of Estherville, Iowa, and Lynn of Bloomington. There are two grandchildren, Stephanie and Molly. Also surviving is one brother Donald (Marilyn) Wittmer of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; brother-in-law Ralph (Eleanor) Wangen of Albert Lea; foster sisters Bernadine Kuyper of Bloomington, Sylvia Meuser of Albert Lea, Phyllis Nielsen of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.

Leslie was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Deloris (Fred) Wollard and Alice (Kendall) Meuser; and foster siblings Lyle Kuyper, Darrell Meuser and Ardith (Gordon) Knudtson.
