Tigers conclude state swim meet

MINNEAPOLIS &045; Albert Lea freshman Amanda Walters swam a 1:03.63 in the 100 backstroke at the state swim meet Wednesday to finish 12th overall in the event.
It was the highest finish for the Tigers who qualified two events for the consolation finals as Albert Lea ended the state meet in 40th place with 11 team points.
Walters swam a 1:03.11 in Tuesday&8217;s preliminary heat just missing the final heat, but she did bounce back with another solid swim to wrap up the 2006 season.
Albert Lea&8217;s other consolation final event was the 200 individual medley where the team of Walters, Gracie Thomas, Jackie Elwood and Samantha Cole swam a 1:58.46 to finish in 14th place overall.
Visitation won its second consecutive Class A title by 49 points over Breck.
