David Oquist, 72

The memorial service for David LeRoy Oquist will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at Community Lutheran Church, Geneva. The Rev. Joel Xavier will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Military honors will be accorded by the Albert Lea veterans organizations. Bonnerup Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.

David died on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006, at the VA Hospital in Minneapolis. He was 72 years old.

David was born in Mora on July 5, 1934, the son of Nels Erick and Dorothy Ellen (Houchin) Oquist.

He lived most of his life in Freeborn County and attended schools in Ellendale and Albert Lea.

During the Korean Conflict he served with the U.S. Army as a paratrooper from 1953-56. He worked as a commercial truck driver for many years.

He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and Moose. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and took great pride in his family and grandchildren.

David is survived by his wife, Helen of Albert Lea; two sons: Toby (Julie) Oquist of Geneva, and Tracy (Rhonda) Oquist of Clarks Grove; four grandchildren: Otto and Atom Oquist of Geneva, Morgan and Tanner Oquist of Clarks Grove; nine brothers and sisters: Harold (Edith) Oquist of Kentucky, Betty Crose of Denver, Colo., James Grumke of California, Russel Forsyth of Minneapolis, Mary Quam of Minneapolis, Larry (Bonnie) Dahl of Litchfield, Rose

LaCore of Hollandale, Shirley Christian of Freeborn and Patrick (Terri) Oquist of Albert Lea; and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Alice Oquist, Janet Mederios; and two brothers: Lloyd and Dennis Oquist.
