The Albert Lea volleyball team jumped out to a two-game lead Tuesday over Waseca before falling a point away from losing the match.
The Tigers rallied though for a 3-2 win at Waseca.
Tigers coach Jaime Mauseth said the team came out of the gates strong in two dominating games. The Tigers won 25-12 and 25-12 before dropping the next two.
“I think we got a little too confident,” Mauseth said. “Waseca’s a good team and we can’t play back and let them take it.”
The Tigers lost 22-25 and 19-25 to even the match before trailing 14-11 in Game 5 which plays to 15 points. A point away from defeat, the Tigers won five of six points to land their second win of the season.
“It’s really great to know that in those situations, with the other team one point away, we can still win,” Mauseth said. “It builds confidence. We pushed hard, didn’t give up and it worked out for us.
Annie Ladwig led the Tigers with 25 kills and 17 digs. Bryn Woodside recorded 28 set assists and 17 digs, and Camryn Keyeski recorded a team-high 27 digs.
The Tigers play again at 7:15 p.m. Thursday at Owatonna.
