Marjorie Swanson, 90

Funeral services for Marjorie M. Swanson, age 90, formerly of Edina and Spring Lake Park, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 25, at Christ Episcopal Church. The Rev. James Young will officiate. Interment will be in the Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the services at the Church.
Marjorie died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2006, at Thorne Crest Retirement Center.
Marjorie Miriam Swanson was born Nov. 17, 1915, to William and Aubine (Shea) Crider in Kingston. She graduated from Mechanic Arts High School in 1933. Marjorie married Robert L. Swanson in the early 1940s in Minneapolis. She was a member of the Lake Harriet Christian Church of Minneapolis and leaves a host of Christian friends from there. Marjorie loved to write poetry and had several poems published. She was recognized in the 1984 Who&8217;s Who in American Poetry.
Survivors include her son, Dennis Swanson of Eden Prairie; daughter, Sharon and husband, Nathan Haapala of Albert Lea; grandchildren: Meghan Haapala, Millicent Haapala, and Erik Swanson; sisters, Hazel Burtzlaff of Stillwater and Gloria Chapman of Colorado Springs, Colo.; brothers: Gordon Crider of Litchfield, Traverse Crider and Clinton Crider, both of Helena, Mont., and Jackson Crider of Jefferson City, Mont.; sister-in-law, Helen and husband, Cletus McGlennen of Bloomington; and many nieces and nephews.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; son, Edward; and several brothers and a sister.
Memorials are preferred to Crossroads Community Hospice, Thorne Crest Retirement Center or Christ Episcopal Church.
