The following are some of the volunteer opportunities currently open in Freeborn County. If you can help with any of them or would like to volunteer for others, call Pat Stumme, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program director, at Senior Resources, 377-7433.

Big Island Rendezvous: It’s great to celebrate Minnesota history by leading a tour with elementary students through the Big Island Rendezvous. Tour guides are needed to ensure that the classes get to their appointed area on schedule. Just come to the orientation at 5 p.m. on Sept. 27 at Bancroft Bay. You are needed for Sept. 29 and 30 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Help one day or two and get free admission to the weekend event. More School Days guides are always welcome.

Albert Lea Public Library-Children’s Room: Delivery person needed for one hour per month to take bags of books to day care site. Please call Patti Greibrok, youth services librarian at 377-4356.

Salvation Army Food Shelf and Community Meals: You can help nourish families and individuals in Freeborn County by volunteering at The Salvation Army. Volunteers are needed 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. any weekday to fill food boxes of about 25 pounds. Others will help between 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. daily to prepare, serve, clean up or visit with folks coming for the noon meal. Come try it out or shadow another helper. You can set a schedule in the week that works for you or offer to be an on-call helper. Harvesting produce from the community garden is also needed. Please call Capt. Lee or Ron at the Salvation Army at 373-8776.

RSVP, a program of Senior Resources of Freeborn County, receives some funding through the United Way of Freeborn County, the Minnesota Board on Aging and the Corporation for National and Community Service.
