The Albert Lea boys’ and girls’ cross country teams both placed 12th Saturday out of 17 teams in the Faribault Invitational at Alexander Park.
The Tigers boys’ team was led by senior Isaac Staat who placed 48th overall in 17 minutes and 54.6 seconds.
“Staat demonstrated tremendous leadership by showing that no matter what the conditions you need to continue the battle,” Tigers coach Jim Haney said. “He ran a great race and he and Blair Bonnerup each pushed each other to be better.”
Bonnerup placed 63rd in 18:21.1.
Chrissy Monson finished first overall in the girls’ race out of 115 runners. She finished in 15:08.2, three seconds faster than the next finisher.
“Monson is a great runner and she demonstrates everytime she runs that she is the definition of a champion,” Haney said. “She accepts all challenges and continues to excel.”
The rest of the Tigers girls’ team ran in a pack and finished 62nd through 98th. Sophomores Rachel Kenis and Emma Behling led the pack and finished within two seconds of each other for 62nd and 66th place, respectively.
The Tigers compete again at 4 p.m. Thursday at Rochester Eastwood Golf Course.
