OWATONNA &045;&160;Albert Lea finally got its bats going and the pitching was solid against the Owatonna Aces, but seven errors on defense cost the Colonels the chance to pick up their first win, 11-8.

For a team that has struggled all season with the bats, the Colonels found their swing Wednesday night pounding out 13 hits.

Derek Goodnature went 3-for-3 in the game with a pair of walks, Devin Kaasa had four hits while both Jared Butler and Matt Trygstad each added two hits each.

The Albert Lea pitchers gave up 11 runs on 10 hits but only four runs were earned.

Brandon Klukow pitched the first 5 1/3 innings giving up seven runs, only four earned, on eight hits while striking out three. Travis Klatt worked the next two and did not give up an earned run on just one hit. Devin Kaasa finished the game in the ninth.

&8220;It was a game that I felt we should have won,&8221; said Colonels head coach Bill Trygstad. &8220;We out hit them but we didn’t

outplay them in the field.&8221;

The Colonels were down seven going into the ninth but they were able to score four runs with two outs in the inning. Albert Lea would bring the tying run to the plate but a flyout ended the game.

The Colonels (0-6) host Faribault Saturday before traveling to Wells for a Sunday afternoon game. After that the team begins a seven game homestand.
