Here are highlights in history for Sept.  16, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:

1983 — Each city in Freeborn County would be visited by the United Way “Thank You” helicopter as part of a recognition flight for their support in fundraising campaigns.

1973 — O.H. Bondus, president of Albert Lea’s Freeborn National Bank since 1956, retired. He would be replaced by Gordon Bickle.

1953 — Maria Sanchez of Eagle Pass, Texas, was the queen for the Mexican Independence Day celebration in Hollandale.
