A 31-year-old Annadale man pleaded guilty in Freeborn County District Court Friday to criminal sexual conduct with a teenager, involving inappropriate sexual contact over a period of several years.
Shawn Allen Kaehn pleaded guilty to one count of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct of a 16- to 17-year-old by a position in authority as part of a plea agreement between his lawyer and the Freeborn County Attorney’s Office.
He initially faced four charges, including first-degree criminal sexual conduct, involving sexual penetration of a victim 13 to 15 years old; second-degree criminal sexual conduct of a victim 13 to 15 years old by a position in authority; third degree criminal sexual conduct of a 16- to 17-year-old, involving multiple acts; and a different fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct charge.
In exchange for Kaehn accepting the plea, the lawyers are recommending Kaehn’s other three charges be dismissed.
Court documents alleged the man had sexually abused the teenager more than 70 times throughout a six-year period.
During a plea hearing Friday, Kaehn’s lawyer Kevin Riha and Freeborn County Attorney Craig Nelson said they are both recommending Kaehn serve no additional jail time as part of the agreement and requested that the man be released until sentencing.
Freeborn County District Court Judge Steve Schwab approved the release and ordered a series of conditions for Kaehn to follow until the sentencing hearing, which is scheduled for Jan. 23.
Those conditions included signing a waiver of extradition, having no contact with the victim, not possessing any pornographic or sexually explicit material, not using alcohol or controlled substances, along with complying with random testing.
He must also remain law abiding and have no contact with people under 18, though he was approved to have contact with his son.
