A-C ends 11-game losing streak 44-20
The Alden-Conger football team hadn’t won a game since the 2009 postseason. Finally they have something to smile about.
The Knights ended their 11-game losing streak Friday with a 44-20 win at Truman.
The win also marked the first for head coach Nick Willaert, who took over the Knights at the start of their winless 2010 campaign.
“I’m proud of these guys,” Willaert said. “They deserve a win for all they do in the offseason.”
The Knights had two players with over 100 yards rushing. Quarterback Jordan Johnson rushed for 139 yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries, and running back Tony Behnke ran for 166 yards and three touchdowns on 18 carries.
“The offensive line was fired up and they kept coming again and again,” Willaert said. “They were going to get these yards for us no matter what.”
Johnson sparked the Knights’ offense in the first quarter with a five-yard run to give Alden-Conger a 6-0 lead. Truman returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown before Johnson added two more scores.
With 4 1/2 minutes remaining in the first, Johnson passed to Deon Skinner for a 22-yard touchdown and added another three minutes later on the ground.
Behnke scored twice in the second quarter on touchdown runs of 23 and nine yards.
Behnke added a 17-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, and Johnson scored on a 14-yard run in the fourth.
The Knights defense was led by Spencer Wallin with five tackles.
