NRHEG sharp in its section opener

NEW RICHLAND &045;&160;Limited turnovers and a hot shooting night proved to be a great combination for the New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva boys’ basketball team.

The Panthers shot 58 percent from the floor and committed just six turnovers against Triton to pick up the 63-42 victory.

NRHEG jumped out to a 12-0 lead to begin the game and held at least an eight point advantage the entire game.

The Panthers got balanced scoring with its strong shooting night with four players hitting double figures.

The Panthers did a good job of sharing the basketball, getting assists on nearly 80 percent of their 21 field goals in the game.

Dakota Tracy had eight assists in the game to lead the team.

Joe McGuire led the way with 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

Brad Kruckeberg added 11 points and both Ben Walhauser and Justin Stieglbauer had 10 points apiece.

&8220;Usually during tournament time guys tend to tense up a little bit, but we handled it very well,&8221; said NRHEG head coach Matt Eppen.

&8220;I give Triton a lot of credit for battling back a couple times during the game but we were able to respond.&8221;

The Panthers advanced to the sub-section semifinal where it will face Waterville-Elysian-Morristown in Waseca at 7:45 p.m. WEM defeated NRHEG by 10 points early in the season, but Eppen said the key this time around will be for his team to elevate its play on the defensive end.
